Myrtle Beach is known for its family friendly atmosphere and beautiful beaches. Before heading out to enjoy a day of fun in the sun, make sure you know the rules and regulations that keep our beaches beautiful.
Swimming / Sun Bathing
No swimming beyond fifty yards from the beach OR over shoulder depth, (unless a lifeguard specifically states
otherwise. No swimming within fifty yards of a pier. Flotation rafts must be made of canvas or fabric if used in the ocean. Rafts must have safety ropes. No thong bathing suits.
Tents / Umbrellas
Horry County
No tents, tarps, pavilions or cabanas allowed on the beach. Round umbrellas are permitted provided the umbrella is no larger than 7 feet 6 inches.
Myrtle Beach
No tents on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Round umbrellas with 7 foot 6 inch diameter or less are permitted.
North Myrtle Beach
From May 15- September 15, only round umbrellas are allowed.
Fireworks
Possessing or setting off fireworks is illegal within all cities along the Grand Strand.
Driving On The Beach
Driving on Public Beaches is not allowed.
Littering
Littering is against the law. Offenders may be prosecuted. No glass containers on the beach.
Campfires
Campfires and grills or any other cooking devices are not allowed on the beach.
Plant Life
Cutting, breaking, or otherwise destroying all beach plants is illegal.
Animal Laws
Horry County
Animals on the beach must be on leashes shorter than 6 feet in length. Animals are not allowed on the beach from 9
am- 4pm June 1-September 1.
Myrtle Beach
Dogs must be leashed at all time. No animals are allowed on beaches or on Ocean Boulevard from 21st Ave No to 13th Ave S, at any time. Dogs are allowed on beaches anytime from Labor Day through April 30. Dogs are prohibited on beaches from May 1st to Labor Day.
North Myrtle Beach
Dogs must be leashed at all time. No dogs permitted on the beach from 9am to 5pm May 15th-September 15th.
Sleeping on the Beach
Sleeping on the beach is prohibited between 9pm and sunrise.
Alcohol
Possessing or consuming alcohol is prohibited on the beach.
