Your vacation home is more than a financial investment…it’s an invaluable step in making lifelong family memories that will be cherished for years to come.
For many families, purchasing a beach condo is the right choice for a second home. Condos are low maintenance, and often come with a host of amenities that are convenient and perfect for multi-generational gatherings. When you have purchased the perfect condo the next step is outfitting your new home so that you can begin enjoying it. Because condos often pack a lot of amenities into a smaller square footage, maximizing space is important!
Your Bedroom Is Your Haven
No other space in your home needs to be as calm and serene as your bedroom. Creating a calm, soothing space to relax and unwind is the key to enjoying your home as a whole. Small bedrooms can quickly become overwhelmed by poor furniture placement or unnecessary clutter. The first step in outfitting any sleeping space is to determine what scale and shape of furniture to use.
TIP: Select clean, straight lines when choosing your bedroom furniture. Curved furniture lines appear bulky to the eye and visually take up more space in small bedrooms.
After you’ve selected a bed, build the rest of the room around your sleeping space. Don’t overcrowd the room with un-needed pieces. Choose a paint color for the walls that is not too dark. Dark paint will make a small room feel smaller and more closed in.
TIP: Use mirrors to optimize light. A strategically placed mirror will reflect the light from windows and make the entire room appear brighter. A bonus for beach condo owners is that the mirror will add an additional angle to enjoy that gorgeous ocean view!
Remember to scale the rest of your bedroom décor around the bed. If your bed has low, straight lines, for example, don’t choose bulky, oversized lamps for the bedside tables. Petite fixtures will help make a small bedroom feel larger in comparison.
TIP: Choose neutral, pattern free linens for bed coverings. Busy quilts with patterns quickly make the room feel smaller. White, Beige, or even gray linens are soothing, clean and fresh in small spaces.
Under the bed storage bins are a great solution for small bedrooms and help to minimize clutter such as shoes, extra linens, or other items that don’t need to be used every day.
TIP: Small bedrooms can be used for more than sleeping! Try adding a small chair and a petite floor lamp to one corner. This will instantly add a reading nook to your bedroom. Make sure you position your chair so that you have a view of that beautiful beach! After all, this is what living the Dreamlife is all about!
